The Milwaukee Brewers are finding their rhythm again. After losing two games in a row to end the series against the St. Louis Cardinals at Busch Stadium, the Brewers are now on a two-game winning streak, having defeated the Oakland Athletics on Friday (11-3) and Saturday (9-5).
Jake Bauers Highlights Milwaukee Brewers’ Approach to Offense
The second win over the Athletics had the fingerprints of first baseman Jake Bauers all over it. The 28-year-old infielder was 1-for-3 with two walks, a home run and three runs scored in the contest. Bauers and the Brewers also relied on small-ball tactics to generate runs.
By Michael Wagaman of the Associated Press:
“We have a lot of guys here who are committed to playing the right way,” Bauers said. “When you do that, you put yourself in situations where you can score extra points, get safety points when you need them. That’s been the mindset all year and it probably will stay that way.”
During the Athletics game, the Brewers were able to produce 10 hits, seven of which were singles. Milwaukee also had the Athletics pitching staff issue seven walks.
Putting players on base is the watchword for the Brewers, who rank ninth in the major leagues with 1,109 hits, third in walks (479) and third in Base Percent (.332).
The Brewers are one step away from sweeping the Athletics
The Brewers, who improved to 75-54, will look to sweep the Athletics this Sunday when they hand the ball over to Frankie Montas. Montas is 6-8 with a 4.57 ERA this season. He was on fire in his last start, throwing seven scoreless innings with just one hit allowed in a 3-2 victory over the Cardinals last Tuesday on the road.
