Jake Bauers isn’t typically in the Brewers’ starting lineup this year, but he’s bought into Milwaukee’s baseball franchise. He was 1-3 (home run), two walks and three runs scored Saturday against the Athletics. He also showed off his base-running skills, scoring from first base in the eighth inning on Garrett Mitchell’s bloop single to left field.
Jake Bauers said after the game, “We have a lot of guys here that are committed to playing the game the right way. When you do that, you put yourself in situations where you can score extra runs, to get safety runs when you need them. That’s been the mindset all year long.” Bauer’s individual performance certainly reflected that quote, but the Brewers collectively scored seven singles in the game and recorded seven walks en route to scoring nine runs.
The Milwaukee Brewers are currently on a 12-game winning streak in interleague play.
The Brewers have an MLB-best 31-14 record in interleague play this year, which now includes 12 straight wins. They are 20-4 in their last 24 interleague games. This series against the Oakland Athletics is their final interleague series of the year, as they play every National League team for the rest of the schedule.
