The Milwaukee Brewers had high hopes of beating the Oakland Athletics on the road, but they just couldn’t do it. The Brewers lost 4-3 to the A’s on the road on Sunday, giving them less than three wins. Before that game, Milwaukee had defeated the Athletics in the first two games of the series, by a combined score of 20-8.
Gary Sanchez gave the Brewers an early lead with a two-run home run in the second inning, but Milwaukee didn’t score again until the seventh inning when Willy Adames hit a solo shot to cut Oakland’s lead to one point.
Brewers manager Pat Murphy lamented his team’s inability to generate consistent production at the plate in the series finale. Milwaukee had just four hits in the entire contest. The Brewers also recorded just two walks. The Brewers’ usual small-ball formula simply didn’t work for them.
“Once we got up 2-0 we just couldn’t get the ball in play properly,” Murphy said after the match, according to Eric He of the Associated Press“You’ll lose major league games if you don’t do this.”
Frankie Montas also took a beating in the pitching department. He allowed four earned runs on five hits with two walks and seven strikeouts in six innings of action.
In the next round, the Milwaukee Brewers will face the San Francisco Giants.
Now, the Brewers will face another three-game series against the West Coast club, but this time they will be back home as Milwaukee will host the San Francisco Giants. That series begins Tuesday, and the Brewers are set to hand the ball to Tobias Myers, who is 6-5 with a 2.87 ERA and a 1.14 ERA in the 2024 MLB regular season.
