Wisconsin football players eye fierce 2026 speedster after All-State season

The Wisconsin football staff has been showing a ton of appreciation lately for the talented, speedy passer who continues to impress.

Tanner MontanoThe 2026 winger from La Cueva High School in Albuquerque, New Mexico, quickly became a recruiting target for Wisconsin. Montano is a talented football player but also a lethal track athlete with a personal best of 10.64 seconds in the 100-meter dash. The winger recently sat down with Sports Heroics in Wisconsin employee to tell us what he or she pays attention to when recruiting for studies.

Wisconsin Football Staff Intrigued by New Mexico-Native Wide Receiver Tanner Montano

It didn’t take Wisconsin Badgers Football staff is eager to find another gem of a player in the desert, as a novel prospect has emerged. New Mexico native and lightning-fast wide receiver Tanner Montano has been receiving a ton of love from the Wisconsin football staff recently, and rightfully so considering the receiver’s All-State season last year.

Montano is relatively novel to the recruiting world after a sluggish freshman year that saw him catch just one reception for 44 yards. However, the receiver took a substantial step forward last season and became a key part of his team’s offense. Montano had 41 receptions for 891 yards and eight touchdowns, including a 97-yard breakaway that was his longest play of the season.

The wide receiver wasn’t restricted to just catching the ball, as Montano began experimenting with running the ball. Montano had two scores on the ground and ran for just two yards, but he offered very quick looks down the field. Montano regularly beat opposing defenders for substantial gains, showing just how risky his speed can be.

The talented athlete hasn’t been very busy in reaching out to college coaches and recruiting because the process is novel to him. However, both Wisconsin and University of New Mexico were in close contact with the receiver. New Mexico maintained the closest relationship with Montano early on, but the wide receiver is still unsure what he’s looking for in a potential college home.

What can Montano bring to the Wisconsin Badgers football team?

While Montano is known for his speed and ability to attack defenses from the top, the player is capable of doing more for his team. Montano believes his speed opens up other possibilities for both him and his teammates, as defenses worry about what he can do on a single play. The receiver stated, “My speed definitely sets me apart. My speed and ability to threaten deep are huge threats on their own, but it also opens up the rest of my game because defenses are so worried about it.”

Montano’s game-changing speed is matched by his excellent route-running ability and excellent footwork. Montano can get open using more than just his speed, a talent the receiver is also developing. The receiver is still learning the technical aspects of the position, but as he continues to learn and apply his knowledge on the field, he’s sure to improve.

Montano could bring a different level of speed and agility to the Wisconsin football offense that the team would love. The Wisconsin staff loves athletes, players who are versatile and can dominate multiple aspects of their game. Montano is that receiver because of his speed and ability to employ more than just his speed to beat defenses.

The recruiting process is still very novel for Montano, which means he doesn’t know where the programs that have reached out to him stand. However, the recruit has enjoyed keeping in touch with the various coaches and staff members who have reached out to him early on. If Wisconsin hopes to land Montano in the distant future, it will need to maintain a close relationship with the talented wide receiver.
