Milwaukee Brewers: Devin Williams drops significant reminder of performance against San Francisco Giants

Milwaukee Brewers star reliever Devin Williams has returned to his usual form. After giving up his first save of the season in a heartbreaking loss to the St. Louis Cardinals last week, Williams was in great form Wednesday night, helping the Brewers to a 5-3 home victory over the San Francisco Giants.

With the Brewers holding a mere two-run lead in the top of the ninth inning, Williams was called upon to finish the night. Williams obliged, as he went 1-2-3, closing the door on the Giants. He got Mike Yastrzemski to strike out on three pitches. Williams then struck out Thairo Estrada on five pitches. Finally, Williams struck out Grant McCray on a three-pitch strikeout.

With another stellar performance on the mound, Williams picked up his sixth save of the season, improving his stats to a 2.79 ERA and 1.14 WHIP. Williams has narrow opposing batters to a batting average of just .171 this season.

Williams’ return to form was indeed a welcome sight for the Brewers. In the loss to the Cardinals, Williams worried fans when he allowed three walks and scored twice in just two-thirds of an inning, allowing a save, but as he showed on Wednesday, there’s no reason to worry about him too much.

The Brewers will look to close out their series with the Giants with a win on Thursday when Milwaukee hands the ball to Aaron Civale.
