Packers sign three players, including veteran RB La’Mical Perine, to practice squad

The Green Bay Packers signed three players to the practice squad on Friday and placed quarterback Nate McCrary on the practice squad/injured reserve, bringing their practice squad total to 17 players.

With three spots open, the team signed veteran point guard La’Mical Perine, veteran defender Andrew Beck and rookie guard Kamal Hadden.

Perine was drafted in the fourth round by the New York Jets in 2020. In 14 career games with the Jets (2020-21), he ran 72 for 263 yards and two touchdowns and caught 11 passes for 63 yards. In 2023, Perine played in three games for the Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs, rushed 22 for 77 yards and caught three passes for 33 yards.

The Pittsburgh Steelers released Perine in final cuts. He also spent time with the Miami Dolphins and Philadelphia Eagles before that. With AJ Dillon on injured reserve, McCray out and MarShawn Lloyd still recovering from a hamstring injury, the Packers need experienced depth at running back.

Beck has played in 66 NFL games, including 15 as a quarterback/H-back for the Houston Texans last season. He returned a kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown in 2023. Beck played in 51 games for the Denver Broncos over his first four seasons. He has 33 career catches for 220 yards and three touchdowns. The Packers had a pre-draft visit with Beck before the 2019 draft.

The Texans released Beck in final cuts. The Packers did not keep Henry Pearson on the practice squad, so Beck could be an option to upgrade if Matt LaFleur needs an H-back option.

Hadden was drafted by the Chiefs in the sixth round of the 2024 draft. He was also released after final cuts. During his final season at Tennessee, Hadden had three interceptions and eight pass breakups before suffering a season-ending shoulder injury.
