Milwaukee Brewers first baseman Jake Bauers didn’t have the best game on the mound during Saturday’s game against the Cincinnati Reds. In fact, he struck out not just once but four times throughout the contest. Still, Milwaukee manager Pat Murphy credits Bauers as one of the heroes of his team’s 5-4 victory over the Reds.

Williams issued two walks and hit T.J. Friedl with a pitch before first baseman Jake Bauers made a diving stop on a tough grounder by Ty France for the final out. Bauers struck out four times but made a gigantic play at the end.
“He has a sombrero, it’s a good thing he didn’t wear it on the field,” Murphy said. “It shows you can throw the ball out of play four times and still have a huge impact on the game.”
Brewers starter Devin Williams struggled to get the job done in the ninth inning, loading the bases before Cincinnati’s Ty France could catch up. France touched the ball on Williams’ fifth, but Bauers, fortunately for the Brewers, was there to save the day on defense.
Jake Bauers is not doing well in 2024
This season, Bauers is slashing just .200/.306/.380, hitting 11 home runs and recording 40 RBI. He has one of the highest strikeouts in the major leagues. Bauers’ 34.4 strikeout percentage is the eighth-highest among all MLB players this season with at least 250 plate appearances.
The Brewers can beat the Reds this Sunday when Milwaukee hands the ball to Tobias Myers.
