Authorities said a firefighter with the Racine and Raymond fire departments was killed Thursday in a motorcycle and car crash at the entrance to Alpine Valley in Walworth County.
The Walworth County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement shortly before 12:30 a.m. Thursday, a 911 caller reported an accident at Highway D and Townline Road at the entrance to Alpine Valley in the town of Lafayette.
Emergency responders attempted to save the life of the motorcyclist, Maxwell J. Bayer, 31, of Franksville, who was taken to the East Troy Municipal Airport to a waiting Flight For Life helicopter. However, Bayer was pronounced dead at the airport.
The sheriff’s office said the driver of the car, a 17-year-old boy from Eagle, was not injured and is fully cooperating with the investigation.
The crash is being investigated by the Walworth County Criminal Investigation Unit and no additional details have been released.
