On May 12, Jack Diederich shot the five-bearded turkey of his life, but almost missed the opportunity when he considered shooting Jake the day before to provide the main course for his girlfriend.
Diederich, of Belleville, had a hunting tag for season four, which began Wednesday, May 10. The night before, he had searched the woods on private land near Belleville in Green County, hoping to host a gobbler the next morning.
