An early look at Wisconsin’s 2025 basketball recruiting class

Wisconsin basketball has a lot of players to replace from last season. They added the signings of Cameron Hunter, Xavier Amos and John Tonje. Their freshman class includes guards Daniel Freitag and Jack Robison, both from Minnesota.

Even though Freitag and Robison haven’t played yet, Greg Gard and his staff are working on the recruiting class for 2025. There should be plenty of openings as players like Max Klesmit, Steven Crowl, Carter Gilmore and Markus Ilver are in their final year of eligibility. Here’s an early look at Wisconsin’s 2025 basketball recruiting class.

Wisconsin basketball recruit – Zach Kinzinger (guard, De Pere, Wisconsin)

Kinzinger was the first member of Wisconsin’s 2025 basketball recruiting class. Greg Gard and his staff offered Kinzinger last summer after a really good AAU season. Kinzinger was a member of the De Pere men’s basketball team that posted a perfect 30-0 record and a state championship during the 2022-2023 season. His older brother Johnny plays for Illinois State.

I think Wisconsin basketball has the potential to steal here. At the time, Kinzinger only had offers from UW, Green Bay and Cal Poly. Since joining the team, Kinzinger has performed really well on the AAU circuit and averaged 20 points per game last season as a junior. Kinzinger is a good point shooter who can also handle the ball. Kinzinger is No. 3 player in Wisconsin according to 247Sports.

Wisconsin basketball recruit – Will Garlock (center, Middleton, Wisconsin)

Wisconsin basketball needs to acquire a big-name player in this class because it will be losing most of its players over the next two years. Will Garlock is an critical player that Garda and his staff have been paying attention to for some time now. For a while, it looked like UW was the team to beat in this battle. It may have taken a little longer than some expected, but it shouldn’t be a surprise that Garlock is a Wisconsin Badger.

Garlock also had offers from Iowa, Marquette, Penn State and Virginia Tech. Like Kinzinger, Garlock still has room to grow in his game. Therefore, being 6′ 10″ tall and weighing 215 pounds encourages participation in big basketball programs. These other teams obviously saw what Garlock had in his game. Wisconsin basketball loves to develop big men right away. It looks like Garlock could be another solid basketball player from Wisconsin. Garlock is currently Wisconsin’s No. 6 overall player in 247 sports.

Other Wisconsin basketball recruits

Gard still has plenty of talent to look out for. Some of the big players UW will focus on are Davion Hannah (No. 1 player in WI), Ryder Frost (No. 5 in Indiana) and potentially LaTrevion Fenderson (No. 9 in WI).

Hannah would be the star of the class, as 247 Sports ranked him 18th in the class of 2025. It will be an uphill recruiting battle, but I expect Wisconsin basketball to be at the center of it.
