Wisconsin is home to over 160 species of fish. Of these, anglers routinely catch only one or two dozen, leaving behind a whole host of scarce species that anglers don’t often see.
DNR biologists document where these scarce species occur throughout Wisconsin and have “distribution maps” that show the waters where we have observed each species. Fish research in Wisconsin has been going on for over 100 years, so we know where different species occur and the maps don’t change much.
