His Christmas oratorio, now considered one of Bach’s richest musical achievements, remained unheard for over a century after its first performance, until renewed holiday celebrations brought it back into fashion. Each of the six cantatas was intended for the great celebration of Christmas; Musical director Ken-David Masur and the MSO are accompanied by the Milwaukee Symphony Chorus to ensure the oratorio’s message of contemplation, abundance and joy rings from the rafters.
