Beef Festival 2023 | Harvest Wisconsin

Did you know that May is beef month in Wisconsin? As beef lovers across the state put on their aprons and click their grilling tongs, the Wisconsin Beef Council invites you to join in celebrating the farmers, truck drivers, meat processors, chefs, beef customers and more who are a key part of the Wisconsin community heritage, economy and future.

The first-ever Beef Fest is open to everyone Wisconsin Farm Discovery Center in Manitowoc on Saturday, May 20 Wisconsin Beef Council cooperates with Wisconsin Farm Bureau and Farm Wisconsin for a day filled with interactive activities, learning opportunities, and of course, BEEF!

Beef Fest runs from 9am to 1pm and includes several key attractions for all ages. It will take place first 3R&D Annual burger and bun run! This 5km run/walk takes you back to the Discovery Center where you can enjoy a free beef burger or hotdog, as well as free entry to all exhibits if you entered the race! All proceeds from the run will be donated to the Feeding Wisconsin foundation to purchase beef for families in need. In 2022, the race raised $4,500 for this cause.

Once everyone reaches the finish line, there will be a compact awards ceremony (did we mention the winner will receive a $50 beef gift certificate?). Then at 11:30 a.m., Wayne Lautsbaugh and his Crescent Meats family will lead the Beef Festers in Sausage Making 101. During this interactive workshop, Wayne will show us what it’s like to make sausage at the Cadott Meat Plant. Then they will teach us how to prepare beef sticks, heated dogs or summer sausage at home.

This is not the end of emotions. You can meet cows in a calving barn, learn how cattle are cared for and what they eat from a local livestock nutrition consultant, learn how to employ a cowboy lasso, make your own earrings, and talk about why they are used to raise cattle , hear about all the products that cows aid us produce, and more!
