Bob Uecker recorded Jonathan Lucroy’s voicemail and it’s everything you’d expect

Bob Uecker has died on Thursday at the age of 90. A one-of-a-kind man, former baseball player, legendary television broadcaster and TV/film star, has been struggling with miniature cell lung cancer since the beginning of 2023. Many stories have emerged since his death, but none may be better than Jonathan Lucroy revealing that his voicemail is being recorded by Uecker himself and its contents are what you would expect.

On MLB Network Radio, Jonathan Lucroy joined the call to talk about Bob Uecker. He started talking about how Uecker recorded his voicemail so that people who call him can hear his voice. Lucroy said the idea was inspired by then-teammate reliever Kameron Lowe, who did the same thing. To this day, at least a decade later, Uecker’s voice can be heard all the way to Lucroy’s voicemail.

On the air, Lucroy was able to play the audio of his voicemail for everyone to hear. It read: “Lucroy swings and fouls in the air behind home plate. This one will take the lower seats in the box and wow, look, he hit his wife Sarah right on the top of the head and she was knocked out! How about this! And he left too. If you want to call back, please leave your name and number. If you don’t do this, please leave your zip code.”
