Madison – Irish freedom has appeared since 1990. The first state tournament, but it cannot be said that 35 years have passed.
They looked at home in the Kohl Center, when the Irish nr 1 drove next to 4 elk in the Division semi-final 3, 66-32.
Copers started 3-0, but it would be their only advantage in the game, because the Irish Senior Drew Kortz won 5 unanswered, and Freedom never watched when they led 42-11 during the break.
“He was very close to the script, for example, if we intended to draw it as if we wanted to go,” said Ireland coach Andrew Gibbons from the first half. “Everything went well.”
From the very beginning of the game, the Irish used the relentless full pitch press, and the mounds had no answer to it. The Irish people had 34 points from 21 turns of the elk.
“You can really get lost in the press,” said Senior Freedom Drew Kortz. “This is what turned into many easy points for us, easy attachments for (Donovan Davis) – many easy points.
Kortz and the second Davis had 27 points. Davis had double double, 10 rebounds for these points, and also had 5 thefts. As a Freedom team, he shot an impressive 50% of the floor.
Now the team will be looking for a second title in the history of the program.
“It means a lot,” said Kortz. “A lot of time has passed. The community really supports us, yes, we just have to close ourselves and do it on Saturday.”
The Irish will now play on Saturday for the title of D3 against No. 2 Milwaukee Academy of Science.
