Bowhunting well represented by pioneers like Jim Dougherty

Many people don’t know that just 50 years ago, cars and trucks in Wisconsin accidentally killed more deer than bowhunters intentionally did.
In fact, some of us remember a time when whitetail deer numbers were few and far between, bows were a novelty on a single string, and cedar arrows far outnumbered aluminum arrows. Even in 1973, we thought fiberglass hunting arrows were a revolutionary luxury, and we had no idea that carbon/graphite arrows would begin their rise to dominance in another 15-20 years. Meanwhile, bowhunting deer was considered a feat of luck or incredible skill, and bowhunters were constantly striving to gain respect for their craft and equipment.
