Giannis Antetokounmpo talked about pride and competitiveness more than a week ago when his team lost to the Brooklyn Nets for the third time. We’re two months into the season and it looks like the Milwaukee Bucks are getting back to their venerable ways.
The Bucks lost badly to the New York Knicks, losing by 34 points106-140. Antetokounmpo scored 24 points and Damian Lillard had 22, although it’s straightforward to say those points didn’t matter enough in a game they were trailing for most of the evening.
The Greek Freak talked about how they failed to create space for themselves in the game, which led to indigent three-point shooting.
Their score behind the arc was 10/34, or 29.4% overall.
Giannis said they weren’t aggressive enough in finding space and that’s why they weren’t able to get more good shots from that line.
Lillard, Khris Middleton and AJ Green each made two of three field goals. Four people had one each.
They weren’t competing for that space, as Antetokounmpo suggests. An venerable song they’ve been listening to since October.
Giannis Antetokounmpo comments on lack of competitiveness
The Bucks may be back in contention for home court advantage, but one glaring statistic about their record is this 0-8 against the top three teams in the East – Cleveland Cavaliers, Boston Celtics and Knicks.
This was brought up by the post-game reporter and his rant that they needed to be more competitive.
Antetokounmpo has no problem repeating this point because he believes in it I’ve proven it before that they can do the job.
As I said, we are a much better team than November’s. We proved it, we played better basketball in longer stretches. But at the end of the day, when you’re playing against the top three teams, you have to do a better job. We have to take it. They won’t give it to us.
