Celebrated freshwater angler Greg Bohn and his wife Audrey were killed in a three-vehicle crash

Hazelhurst, Wis. – Renowned fishing guide Gregory R. Bohn, 70, and his wife Audrey J. Bohn, 70, of Hazelhurst, Wis., were killed in a multi-vehicle crash on a highway. 51 near their home in Hazelhurst on Friday, July 12.

The crash occurred around 2:30 p.m. near South Blue Lake Road in the town of Hazelhurst. Witnesses say the driver of a 2017 Toyota Camry traveling northbound had stopped in the travel lane to make a turn when the car was struck from behind, pushing it into oncoming southbound traffic.

Greg Bohn and Audrey Bohn, who were in a northbound vehicle and waiting to turn into a private driveway on the west side of the highway, died at the scene.

Two other people were injured in the accident. Police say Jonathon P. Kopchinski, 85, of Hazelhurst, was transported to a local medical facility for treatment.

Brandon L. Boh, 23, of Arbor Vitae, was treated at the scene by medical personnel. He was traveling on a 2023 International MV 607 flight, authorities said.

Part of the highway. On Friday, July 12, route 51 was closed for over seven hours while crews cleared the scene and completed accident reconstruction.

The Oneida County Sheriff’s Office was called to the scene by the Oneida County Medical Examiner’s Office, Woodruff Police Department, Department of Natural Resources, Minocqua Fire Department, Cassian Fire Department, Hazlehurst Fire Department, Oneida County Emergency Medical Services and the Oneida County Highway Department.

Greg Bohn was introduced to National Freshwater Fisheries Hall of Famein Hayward in 2016. The Bohns owned and operated Stinger Tackle Company and Strictly Walleye Headquare in the Minocqua area, and Audrey Bohn supported the fishing tackle and tackle business while also working on medical records and finances at Howard Young Medical Center for 13 years and then spent the next 11 years as an administrative assistant at the Howard Young Foundation. After retirement, Audrey Bohn volunteered at many local events, often featuring Greg Bohn.

Being involved in the fishing equipment industry and working as a guide, Greg Bohn has long been a presence at sports shows and speaking engagements. He wrote many books on fishing tactics, focusing primarily on the utilize of floats to catch zander. He eventually became known as “Mr. Bobber slip.

The Bohns left behind three daughters, grandchildren and many relatives and friends.
