Christian Yelich is bluntly compared to 2011 MVP Ryan Braun, but it’s something Milwaukee Brewers fans should look away from

Both Ryan Braun and Christian Yelich will be considered Milwaukee’s top brewers, but one MLB analyst thinks the club should do something about the latter before it’s too delayed.

The now recovering Yelich won MVP honors in 2018 and led the Brewers to some playoff success. After that, his game softened, not because of various injuries.

He was able to return to top form in 2024 and was named an All-Star, but a back injury in August forced the Brewers to sit him out Season-ending surgery until September.

Braun played all of his MLB years in Milwaukee, but his twilight years weren’t as impressive when he was an All-Star.

Thoughts by FanSided’s Brian Sampson Yelich’s career trajectory is similar to Braun.

“Christian Yelich has been the face of the Brewers since his arrival in 2018, but his career trajectory has uncannily mirrored that of former franchise icon Ryan Braun,” Sampson said.

“Yelich rose to the top of the league with his NL MVP season in 2018, a year after being acquired by Milwaukee in a highly successful trade. The following season, he was on track to win back-to-back MVP awards before a freak injury ended his campaign and derailed the trajectory of his career.

Christian Yelich should be traded

The end of Braun’s time with the Brewers was not a pleasant one. It actually ended unceremoniously.

Milwaukee chose to pay him a $4 million buyout rather than exercise his $15 million option in 2020, making him a free agent for the first time in his career.

He decided to retire by 2021.

Sampson suggested the Brewers should avoid the same scenario with Yelich.

Replacing Yelich would be a bittersweet decision, but one brewers may need to consider. With a no-trade clause, Yelich would have to approve any deal. However, the Brewers could find a suitor that would allow him to pitch more often, potentially prompting him to waive his clause. Yelich’s move would mark the end of an era, but it could also mark the beginning of a novel one.
