Comment: Fawns are becoming a uncommon sight among does in northern Wisconsin

After reading Bills Rands’ comment on the deer herd in northern Wisconsin, I feel I have an obligation to share my observations on the subject.
I started hunting in Chequamegon National Forest in southern Ashland County, Wisconsin in 2000. At that time, deer were most often seen with twins and sometimes triplets. It was extremely uncommon to see a doe with one fawn, and even rarer to see a doe without any fawns. I rarely saw wolf tracks in the forest.
Fast forward 10 years to 2010. At that time, sightings of triplets had become extremely uncommon. I have seen as many dogs with one fawn as I have seen twins. It wasn’t unusual to see a doe without fawns.
