Craig Counell, former Milwaukee Breweryskipper and current first-year manager of the Chicago Cubs, was recently asked about the gap between the two organizations. Counsell answered the question by speaking directly about the results that have occurred this season, as well as in previous seasons. He also spoke about how that should motivate the Cubs to build 90-win teams.
The difference between the Milwaukee Brewers and the Chicago Cubs is “huge.”
During the pregame press conference, Craig Counsell was asked about the gap between the Brewers and Cubs, acknowledging that Milwaukee had run away with the division the past two seasons and that trying to close that gap was a “daunting” task not only for Chicago but for the other National League Central clubs as well.
“I think the message is there’s a big gap. I mean, they’re way ahead of us.”

Pat Murphy uses the word ‘fearless’ to motivate the Milwaukee Brewers heading into the 2024 season.
Earlier this year, Pat Murphy, who replaced Craig Counsell as Brewers manager, ordered T-shirts with the word “undaunted” emblazoned across the front. Undaunted, which means “undaunted” or “undaunted” by hardship, has been a motivating word in Milwaukee this year because it perfectly sums up the 2024 team.
Craig Counsell says the Chicago Cubs organization has “a lot of work to do.”
In the same pregame press conference, Craig Counsell talked about the Cubs needing to build 90-win teams every year. 90 wins is usually a unthreatening number to make the playoffs. Counsell said they still have a lot of work to do.
“We should be trying to build 90-win teams here.”
