How will the best burger in Wisconsin be selected?

“These Elite Eight locations will now be visited by a secret panel of judges who will go to each location and rate the burgers,” said Tammy Vaassen, executive director of the Wisconsin Beef Council. “The winning restaurant will be announced on May 1 to kick off May Beef Month.”

Burgers will be scored on taste (50 points), appearance (30 points), proper doneness (10 points), overall enjoyment of the burger (10 points), and additional points may be awarded for the food environment, atmosphere and experience (up to 5 points .)

To participate in the competition, burgers on a restaurant’s menu must meet the following guidelines:

  • The burger must be 100% beef (other ingredients such as spices, vegetables, etc. can be added to the pate)
  • All burgers must consist of a formed patty/patty of ground beef served on a bun or other bread product (such as biscuits, focaccia or tortillas). Burgers can contain any combination of seasonings (such as ketchup, mayonnaise, and mustard), sauces (such as barbecue or heated sauce), cheeses, and toppings (such as bacon, onion, tomatoes, and lettuce). Each burger ingredient should be placed between the bun and pieces of bread or served open on the bread product.
