Early season fishing plans should take into account de-icing times

It is extremely infrequent for ice to be present on any of the state’s lakes during the May opening, even in the extreme northern portions of Minnesota. However, when de-icing occurs just days before the lakes it once covered flow, there are additional issues to consider.
We’ve all become accustomed to what frigid water fishing can mean: spinners will be sold (if available) and baits will be smashed. But other plans can work wonders.
