The digital world has brought our species a long list of tools that can enhance the outdoor experience. A good example is the ubiquitous smartphone, which even “mature” outdoor enthusiasts, myself included, always take with them to the forest and to the rivers and lakes we habitual.
A smartphone can be a lifesaver in emergencies, helping us identify everything from unusual plants to edible mushrooms and even the rocks below us and the stars above us.
