Extensive CWD chat at the Waupaca County, Wisconsin meeting

It wasn’t an action item on the agenda, but chronic wasting disease (CWD) generated a lot of discussion at the May 2 Waupaca County Deer Advisory Council meeting in Manawa.
The council met to recommend deer management goals to the DNR for the county’s 2023 hunting seasons. The council’s recommendations include setting the antlerless deer quota at 8,550, offering three agricultural land apply permits on license, making 2,500 additional antlerless permits available on private land and 500 on public land, and organizing a Christmas hunt that will run from December 24 to January 1st. 2024.
