Adam and Marie Vanden Wymelenberg are first-generation dairy farmers in Greenleaf, Wisconsin. Adam started by milking three cows to a bucket and has since grown to a herd of 230 cows. His passion for dairy farming was contagious. Marie was initially hesitant to take up the life of a farm wife, but she quickly jumped at the opportunity to support her husband realize their dreams.
Marie spent years dedicating herself to being a wife, mother of four, nurse, helping on the farm and managing her own kindergarten.
“I was burnt out, so we decided I needed a hobby,” Marie said. “Something to focus on was just the thing for me.”
Marie soon found herself at a craft store, where she bought supplies to make her own candles. Marie admits that her first attempt at making candles was tough – she had not yet mastered the science and art of combining wax and fragrance. However, she found a design she liked and was determined to learn the proper procedures for pouring wonderful smelling candles.
She quickly created too many candles to keep for herself. She dared to believe and made her soy candles available for sale, which was met with incredible support from the community.
Agricultural goods Vanden Wymelenberg was born from Marie’s candle hobby in 2023. Although Marie is the main creator and driving force of the company, it is truly a family business. The kids support with labeling, and Adam helps name the scents and load the van for craft shows and vendor fairs.
The business began selling soy candles but has evolved into a variety of handmade products such as ointments, balm bars, body butter, fire starters and lip gloss.
