Farm-themed family fun you can experience this summer and fall

Summer and fall can be quite packed with social gatherings and events. If you want to spend a day having fun with your family and do something different than the time-honored day at the pool or a visit to a children’s museum, consider these agritourism spots. Not only will you have a great time and the kids will get plenty of fresh air, but you might even learn a little bit about Wisconsin farmers and agriculture at the same time.

Govin’s Farm, Menomonie

Govin’s Farm is located east of Menomonie in northwestern Wisconsin. The farm is owned by John and Julie Govin, and the family enjoys sharing their love of farming with the community. They host seasonal events that are fun for all ages. This summer and fall, you can stop by to pick your own strawberries and buy lamb products or join in the fall festivities with a corn maze.

Feltz’s Dairy Store, Stevens Point

Feltz Family Farms is a fifth-generation dairy. In June 2017, the family opened Feltz’s Dairy Store and in 2021, Farmstead Cheese Plant. The store has viewing windows into its robotic barn, which allow visitors to watch the cows being milked while enjoying ice cream or delicious fresh cheese curds. There is also a viewing window in the cheese plant, where visitors can watch the fresh cheese being made during certain times of the week. The farm also has a children’s play area called Fun Farm.

Mulberry Lane Farm, Hilbert

At Mulberry Lane Farm, people of all ages can interact and learn about farm animals on group and independent tours. The farm offers a complete family experience from a petting zoo to seasonal activities that let children enjoy country life. On this farm, petting is encouraged. Horse-drawn wagon rides are offered, and visitors can learn to milk a cow.

Jelli’s Market, Helenville

Jelli’s Market in Helenville has something for everyone and something different for every season. This farm, located between Madison and Milwaukee, is the perfect place to stop. Steve and Jody Knoebel own and operate the business with their daughters Jessica, Lindsay and Libby.

The farm grows strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, asparagus and sweet corn. They also sell spring plants and other produce from their 2-acre garden. Their apple orchard is also a massive hit in the fall. Of the nearly 5,000 trees, a vast percentage are Honeycrisp, but they also have Macintosh, Snowsweet and many others.

Flakes and Plows, Ripon

This unique Wisconsin family farm, owned by Wayne and Jo Kaufman, is located between Oshkosh, Ripon and Berlin. With the support of their son, Wade, Kaufman Farms has a greenhouse from spring to fall, as well as an annual one-of-a-kind corn maze and other fall attractions.

This year they are partnering with the NFL Draft on an 18-acre corn maze. You’ll want to see it for yourself, so plan a visit to the farm this fall if you’re interested.

Vesperman Farm, Lancaster

Kyle and his parents, Bruce and Judy, are involved in every aspect of farm life, from planting strawberries to making donuts at Vesperman Farms. This family loves to share the history and stories of their farm. Farm activities include a zipline, Big Bin slides, tire hill, goat petting zoo, ball pit, farm basketball, chalk truck and lawn games. And did I mention they have an ice cream truck?
