Former Los Angeles Lakers fan favorite announced as potential Milwaukee Bucks training camp guest

Lonnie Walker IV impressed basketball fans a few seasons ago during his time with the Los Angeles Lakers, and his performance should justify the Milwaukee Bucks considering signing him up for training camp.

Walker was born in Reading, Pennsylvania, and attended Reading Senior High School, where he was named McDonald’s All-American and Mr. Pennsylvania Basketball.

After a successful high school career, Walker played one season of college basketball for the Miami Hurricanes, earning a spot on the ACC All-Freshman Team. He then declared for the 2018 NBA Draft and was selected 18th overall by the San Antonio Spurs.

Walker spent four seasons with the Spurs, establishing himself as a solid bench player. In 2022, he signed with the Los Angeles Lakers, where he played for one season. Walker most recently joined the Brooklyn Nets on NBA Season 2023-2024.

Throughout his professional career, Walker has shown his versatility as a winger, with the ability to score, rebound and defend at a high level. He has continued to develop his game, making significant strides in various aspects of his game while playing in the NBA.

Why the Milwaukee Bucks Should Sign Former Los Angeles Lakers Star Lonnie Walker IV to Training Camp

At this point, teams in their league are preparing for training camp. Among the guys Milwaukee should sign for their own camp is Walker, as explained in Dalton Sell’s article for Behind The Buck Pass.

“It’s shocking that Lonnie Walker IV remains unsigned this far into free agency. If the Bucks hadn’t filled the last regular roster spot with Gary Trent Jr., it seems like they might have taken him to bolster their depth at shooting guard. While they don’t have a spot in their starting lineup, they should certainly try to work him into the organization one way or another.

Walker’s most desirable attribute is his athleticism. He is the definition of a jumper, as he can jump out of the gym at any moment to throw down a spectacular dunk. He could give Milwaukee a much-needed spark in transition, an area where they struggled last season. What’s more, he’s a career 35.8 percent shooter from deep, so he’s more than just a dunker. This guard could be a spark for the second unit on offense,” Sell wrote.

During his term of office With LeBron James and the Lakers, Walker averaged 11.7 points, 1.9 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game. He also averaged 42 percent from the field, 35 percent from long range and nearly 80 percent from the free throw line.

The question remains whether Milwaukee will extend Walker an offer to join training camp or not. If he makes the roster, expect the former Lakers star to thrive alongside Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard next season.
