Former Milwaukee Brewers OF Joey Więcer engaged in significant MLB-related activities

Heading into the 2024 MLB season, the Milwaukee Brewers faced a problem every organization loves: which teenage stars will be on the field every day. With Christian Yelich on the left wing and star phenom Jackson Chouio on the right, the center field was a real competition between Garrett Mitchell, Sal Frelick, Blake Perkins and Joey Więcer.

The four teenage outfielders competing for the infield job were/are elite fielders. But it all came down to which players were the better attackers. Unfortunately for Wieler, his offense wasn’t as good as others and he was ultimately sent to Triple-A Nashville to start the season.

In 2023, Więcer was not on the Brewery’s Opening Day list. However, he was called up for the second game of the season due to injury. He ended up playing 132 games for the Brewers, hitting .204/.283/.362 with 13 home runs, 42 RBI and 11 stolen bases.

Unfortunately, Więcer couldn’t find his swing in Triple-A Nashville or Milwaukee in 2024. In 19 games for the Brewers last season, he hit a dismal .154/.185/.154.

He also struggled in Triple-A, hitting .242/.387/.358 with three home runs and 21 RBI.

With Milwaukee’s outfield crowded and Wieler’s bat frosty, it was obvious that he wasn’t going to be a regular for the Brewers in the Major League any time soon. With the team needing starting pitching, he and Jakob Junis were traded to the Cincinnati Reds for Frankie Montas.

Więcer did no better for the Reds. He only played two games for them at the Major League level, but he didn’t record a hit in his two appearances. With Louisville, Cincinnati’s Triple-A team, he hit just .191/.280/.229.

The Cincinnati Reds just traded Joey Więcer to the Kansas City Royals

Earlier, on Friday evening, announced the Kansas City Royals that they acquired Więcer and former National League Rookie of the Year Jonathan India from the Reds in exchange for right-handed pitcher Brady Singer:

While this trade is notable for the Brewers because of Więcer’s involvement, it is also worth noting that India averaged a home run in every four games he played against Milwaukee. He scored five in 20 games.

This is also worth keeping an eye on because Singer is a talented starting pitcher. He was just 9-13 last year, but had a 1.28 ERA and a 3.72 WHIP.

In the only game he appeared against the Brewers in his career (this was last season), Singer allowed one run on five hits, two walks and four strikeouts over 5.1 innings.
