Freedom basketball success powered by a robust mental approach

Freedion (NBC 26) -Basketball Freedom Boys is a team to be overcome in a north-eastern conference, offering an invincible 16-0 record. But their success goes beyond the results on the pitch. The Irish determines the priority of the mental side of the game, including the thinking coach to strengthen their team unity.

“We always like to say that two games are ongoing,” said thinking coach Lukas Jadin. “One of them is a physical game that you see right in front of you, and then the other is the game that happens between the ears on the mental side.”

Jadin, a graduate of the Freedom high school, cooperates with various teams and organizations. This season, his first year helps the Irish people.

“I was just thinking about how we could get to a higher level, right? And, as I thought that when approaching this mental approach, he can help us – and so far it was – said Freedom coach Andrew Gibbons. “We are pouring our athletes in the strength room and on the floor, and many times the mental side of things can be neglected if you want. But it can be equally essential. “

One of the way Jadin helped the team is to strengthen their connection.

“We have this great thing in the class of coach Gibbons – it’s just a gigantic ship,” said the second guard Donovan Davis. “He calls it” sinking the ship. ” If you pull out one of these things, the whole ship is simply drowning. These are a lot of negatives or positives that we need to keep control as a team. “

He also teaches them how to react to challenges so that they can face everything that will come.

“He gives us good advice on how to control yourself during the game, keep the energy level and reset after making mistakes,” said the older guard of Drew Kortz.

Jadin hopes that these lessons lead outside the basketball court.

“One day their employer, their future children – do not care how many points they scored. But they will take care of how gritty they are, what their way of thinking is when hard things appear – said Jadin. “I think many of these skills are moving to their future.”

The Irish people believe that these mental tools have already made a difference this season.

“It’s really nice. I mean, it helps in our mental health and makes us better players every day, “Davis said.

Kortz agreed.

“If we didn’t have it, we could not be in the same position in which we are now,” he added.

Because Kortz recently exceeded 1,000 career points, and Davis only 16 points as a second -year student, the Irish people know that they have talent for a deep year after the season.

But what really distinguishes this team is their unity – something they strengthened throughout the season.
