How to support local farmers

May Beef Month is a celebration of all those who support produce nutritious, versatile beef products, from farmers to processors, truck drivers, grocers and more. All play a critical role in Wisconsin’s heritage, economy and future.

Wisconsin has a mighty beef industry, ranking ninth in the nation for the number of cattle and calves that make up the home of the Badger State, totaling 3.4 million1. The value of these cattle and calves to the state is almost twice the value of Wisconsin’s grain, vegetables, melons, and fruits and nuts combined, when comparing cash receipts2.

Whether it’s a Ribeye steak on the grill or a Chuck roast for the family, customers choose beef. In fact, per capita beef and veal consumption in 2022 was over 59 pounds3. That’s 236 quarter-pound burgers!

May Beef Month can be celebrated in many ways:

  • Connect with your local farmer: There are nearly 27,777 farms and ranches in Wisconsin that raise cattle and calves4.
