Hunting will be allowed in Wisconsin’s central elk range for the first time this fall

A few lucky hunters will have the opportunity to hunt elk in the 2024 Central Elk Management Zone for the first time this fall.
The Natural Resources Board (NRB) at its April 10 meeting received information from Christina Kizewski, a biologist with the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) in Jackson County, that the DNR expects the central herd to number more than 180 animals this summer.
“The elk hunt in the Central Elk Management Zone is a true testament to the partnership and hard work that has gone into years of reintroduction efforts,” Kizewski said.
