The Wisconsin Badgers recruiting staff has its eye on a special player in the 2026 recruiting class who could easily slide into the defense.
JJ Dunnigana talented three-star recruit in the 2026 class, he turned into a defender who Wisconsin admissions staff keep a close watch. Dunnigan is from Manhattan, Kansas, where Kansas State is located, and plays in all of its home football games. Both Kansas State and Kansas are two schools that have been heavily involved in recruiting since he arrived on the scene.
Dunnigan is a freak athlete, and while many recruiting sites consider him a cornerback, Dunnigan has something else to say. The player stated: “I am a diverse player, I can play corner, safety and winger.” Dunnigan attributes much of his on-field success to “athletic ability and football knowledge, as well as size.”
The 6-foot-7, 187-pound athlete isn’t lying when he says his athletic ability and knowledge of the game are what sets him apart. Dunnigan sometimes makes crazy moves, whether it’s a player reaching back, running at full speed to break up play, or a player making tackles on much larger players. In fact, there is no single position that can accurately describe and describe what Dunnigan can offer a team on the pitch.
Currently, Dunnigan says the recruiting process so far has consisted of “a combination of virtual meetings, telephone interviews and occasional in-person visits.” The recruit also added that the schools showing the most interest are Kansas, Kansas, Nebraska, Wisconsin and Minnesota. Every school Dunnigan mentioned has already extended the scholarship, but there is still a list of committed schools that don’t have an offer on the table yet.
When it comes to sorting through programs in the recruiting process, Dunnigan stated, “I look for growth and opportunity while playing.” The defender also added: “I look for programs that I have the best relationship with and I look for programs where I am needed.” Finally, Dunnigan added that he would be “grateful” for any offer, but feels he can make an immediate impact regardless of what program it is for.
How could JJ Dunnigan fit into the Wisconsin Badgers football program?
If Dunnigan committed to the Wisconsin Badgers, the defenseman likely wouldn’t have much trouble fitting in with the team.
As mentioned earlier, Dunnigan is a rapid player and when speed is combined with football knowledge, it creates a lethal defender. Dunnigan is an excellent read of the hips and eyes on the pitch and also has great hands considering his ability to play as a striker.
The athlete’s skills when it comes to play recognition and football intelligence are rather attractive to the Wisconsin Badgers staff. Considering the Wisconsin Badgers’ defense, Dunnigan is very similar to talented cornerback Ricardo Hallman, who has great speed and the ability to catch everything in the air.
