Former Wisconsin Badgers defenseman Chucky Hepburn firmly believes he’s one of the best defensemen in the country right now, especially after a career night in which he led his current team, the Louisville Cardinals, to a 79-70 overtime victory over West Virginia on Thursday.
“This is the last year. I think I was in the backseat for a long time.” Hepburn told ESPN after the win via Jacob Padilla on X (formerly known as Twitter). “It’s time to show the world who Chucky Hepburn is. I’m a striker, one of the best playmakers in the country and I stand by that.”
The 21-year-old guard, who left the Wisconsin Badgers program in April, recorded 32 points, three rebounds, two assists and six steals while making 8 of 12 shots and 14 of 17 free throws.
Chucky Hepburn’s 32 points was a career-high for him, surpassing his previous career-high of 27 points in a 75-71 win over the Wisconsin Badgers in the second round of the NIT on March 19, 2023.
He scored 10 of his 32 points in overtime, including a key three-point play with 2:20 left that gave Louisville the lead for good.
