“It’s very hard to miss an opportunity like this”; The former Milwaukee Brewers pitcher is thrilled to be back home for the 2025 season

Following the conclusion of the 2024 season, the Milwaukee Brewers have cut ties with several players. Notable departures include Willy Adames, Frankie Montas and Devin Williams, but other players who have previously played significant roles in the team include Joe Ross, Hoby Milner, Jake Bauers, Bryse Wilson and Colin Rea. Lately, Milner signed a contract with his hometown team, the Texas Rangers.

One area the Rangers are looking to improve this offseason is the bullpen. Signing Hoby Milner to a one-year, $2.5 million contract is one of the steps they have taken to that end. Milner currently joins Walter Pennington as the only left-handed reserve on Texas’ 40-man squad.

Hoby Milner spent four years with the Brewers. Overall, he posted an ERA of 3.42, which includes a stellar 2023 season in which he appeared in 73 games and had an ERA of 1.73. He was one of Milwaukee’s most-used relievers last season, playing in 67 games and having an ERA of 3.76.

Growing up, Hoby Milner watched his hometown Rangers on TV. He wasn’t sure if he would return to Texas and pitch for the Rangers, but Texas was one of the first teams to contact him after the Brewers didn’t interview him. Now he will be able to play not only for his home team, but also for an organization that can compete for the World Series.

“Rangers have been my team for a long time. All things considered, just being at home and playing for a team that has the ability to win a World Series, there’s just no better time to play for the Rangers. I thought it would be very hard to pass up such an opportunity.
