James Flanigan celebrates the university’s commitment to Notre Dame

GREEN BAY (NBC 26) – From Notre Dame Academy to the University of Notre Dame, James Flanigan celebrated his commitment to play college football for the Fighting Irish.

During the ceremony, Flanigan was surprised with a Navy All-American Bowl jersey in San Antonio, Texas. Flanigan is scheduled to play in the Jan. 11 game.

The two-way player, who also competes in hockey and track and field, will be a tough task for the Irish. He follows in the footsteps of his father, who was a defensive lineman at Notre Dame.

“Words cannot describe how grateful I am to my dad and parents for instilling leadership in me and my siblings over the years,” Flanigan said. “I am lucky to have such amazing people around me who influence me and help me on my journey. I am very grateful for this school. She gave me everything.”

Flanigan is not playing hockey for the Tritons this year, but plans to participate in track and field and hopes to win another state title in shot put.
