Due to untimely injuries, the Milwaukee Bucks never had a chance to go far in this year’s playoffs. Philadelphia 76ers great Joel Embiid knew this detail and even trolled the team for seemingly handing over the title to the Boston Celtics after their basic run to the NBA Finals.
Last offseason, the Bucks made a significant decision by trading Jrue Holiday for Damian Lillard, with the goal of giving two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo a talented shot creator instead of a defensive guard. However, the trade resulted in Holiday joining the Boston Celtics and ultimately helped them reach the NBA Finals.
Bucks go to trade Holiday received mixed reactions from fans as it seemed to threaten the team’s chemistry in exchange for a superstar. Following Boston’s success in reaching the Finals, fans are mocking the Bucks for their decision to part with the former guard.
Much like his partnership with Antetokounmpo in Milwaukee, Holiday played a key role in elevating the Celtics throughout the postseason. IN 17 gamesThe former All-Star averaged 13.2 points, 6.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 1.2 steals per game.
By contrast, Lillard’s tenure in Milwaukee was overshadowed by a sudden coaching change and untimely injuries. Unfortunately, an Achilles tendon injury played a role in the Bucks’ early elimination in the first round against Tyrese Haliburton and the Indiana Pacers. The result marked a disappointing end to Lillard’s first season with the team.
The Philadelphia 76ers jokingly say that the Milwaukee Bucks gave the NBA title to the Boston Celtics
While Holiday and the Celtics are one win away from defeating Luka Doncic’s Dallas Mavericks, Sixers huge man Joel Embiid stunned the Bucks by saying they just gave Boston a championship this year. This can be seen in a post the Philadelphia star made on his official X account.
“Did that money win them the championship?” Embiid wrote on Twitter.
Keep in mind that Milwaukee’s decision to trade Holiday for Lillard prompted Boston to acquire him from the Portland Trail Blazers. This move improved the Celtics’ performance, making them talented enough to be one win away from becoming champions.
Time will tell whether Dallas will be able to extend the series or not. In any case, Embiid is right, as Milwaukee cannot be denied a shot at Boston’s playoff run.
