The Wisconsin Badgers volleyball team will travel to Louisville to truly kick off their season with a matchup against one of the nation’s top schools. The Louisville Cardinals volleyball team enters the game ranked sixth in the nation and boasts a talented veteran roster. Louisville finished last season with a record of 27-5, and while they didn’t make the postseason, they finished the season with a record of 16-1 at home.

One thing the Cardinals really excelled at last season was defending their home field and bringing a ton of energy to their games. Wisconsin is entering perilous territory and will certainly have a tough fight both on the field and in the stands. Louisville is known for packing the stadium and coming out in huge numbers to support their team.

Wisconsin is no stranger to crowded environments, and their home court in Madison is a heated spot for some of the best fans in college volleyball. To walk away from Kentucky with a win over Louisville, the Wisconsin volleyball team will have to sluggish down the Cardinals’ top players.

Wisconsin Badgers volleyball must sluggish down top scorers Luper and DeBeer

The Cardinals have two players who are grave scorers and forwards, starting at forward Anna DeBeer. DeBeer is a seasoned player who is entering her final year of eligibility after accomplishing a lot with the Cardinals. DeBeer recorded 18 matches last season with double-digit kills and finished the year with over 300 kills, leading the team.

DeBeer has been a member of Louisville for some time and has also had the opportunity to play in the NCAA tournament with the team. The outside hitter faced Wisconsin in the 2021 tournament and recorded 20 kills against the Badgers defense.

He is the team’s second-leading scorer alongside DeBeer, a former transfer attacker Charitie Luper. Luper began her collegiate career at UCLA before transferring to Louisville last season, taking over the starting spot from one of their alumni. Luper made an immediate impression, recording 344 kills and 27 aces for her team.

The Wisconsin volleyball team will need to find a way to sluggish down DeBeer and Luper to beat the Cardinals. Both forwards are talented and bring a lot of power to their shots and service attempts.

Wisconsin Badgers volleyball must find a way around Glock

Perhaps the best player on Louisville’s roster is the quarterback. Elle Glockwho recorded 1,130 assists last season and also had 19 service aces. Glock is a setter, and whether she’s scoring points on her own or putting her teammates in the perfect position to score, the setter is perilous on the court. Glock had the most assists against Pittsburgh last season, 60, and has proven just how right a setter she can be.

If the Wisconsin volleyball team can find a way to bypass Glock, or at least prevent her from consistently touching the ball, the Badgers could seriously sluggish down Louisville’s attack.
