Saturday is one of the biggest non-conference home games at Camp Randall Stadium in Wisconsin football program history. The Badgers welcome #4 Alabama in an 11 a.m. kickoff Saturday. As part of a home-and-away series, Wisconsin football will travel to Tuscaloosa next season. The first two games weren’t as dominant as Badgers fans might have hoped. Everything has to go right on Saturday. Here’s what Wisconsin football needs to do to pull off a huge win.
Wisconsin football needs to keep Jalen Milroe one-dimensional
Of the Crimson Tide’s 15 touchdowns in their first two games, quarterback Jalen Milroe has accounted for nine of them (four passing and four rushing). If Wisconsin football has a chance to keep this game alive in the second half, the defense needs to take away one of his opportunities.
How do you do that? You find a good balance between keeping him in the pocket but also being uncomfortable. Milroe hasn’t thrown an interception yet this year. I like where the Wisconsin football defense is in the passing game, but for the first time they’re going to be challenged on the field. The front seven is going to be key in this game.
Wisconsin football defense must force many turnovers
Alabama has lost four fumbles in the first two games. Every opportunity the Wisconsin football defense presents itself with must be capitalized on. Preventing long drives and explosive plays will be key in this game.
The Wisconsin football defense hasn’t forced many turnovers on their end. I think they need to force many turnovers to stay in the game. On the other hand, they need to be perfect on offense. That’s a lot to ask, but that’s what you need to do to beat one of the best teams in the country.
Play freely and don’t lose anything
The Wisconsin football team is seen as a 16-point underdog on Saturday. I think even that will be demanding to discuss. No one in the country expects this team to pull off an upset. In a way, that’s how you want it to be.
With the 12-team playoff, an Alabama loss isn’t the end of the world, but a road win over a Power 4 team looks good on the College Football Playoff resume. Wisconsin has nothing to lose in this game, and I want it to play out that way.
Everything should be on the table. Fakes, trick plays, the whole nine yards. If the opportunity arises, I want the Badgers to take advantage of it and get the Camp Randall crowd going quickly. That’s a crowd that’s demanding to get back once they’re out of the game. 2-1 isn’t a large deal heading into the week off. I want Wisconsin football to lay out the playbook this weekend,
