Lake Superior fisheries gathered for the Sept. 27 meeting of the Wisconsin Natural Resources Board (NRB) and came away with some positive words.
Lake Superior Commercial Fishing Board chairman Craig Hoopman told NRB members that fishing in Lake Superior has benefited fish like cisco, lake trout and whitefish.
“I’ve been doing this since I was 8 years old, and I’m proud to report that this is the biggest one I’ve ever seen in this fishery,” he said. Hoopman said that in early spring, when they pull the trap nets, thousands of tiny ciscoes emerge through the nets and fly away.
