Lee Kernen: Will progress in high-tech fishing ever end?

One of the few good things about elderly age is that it gives us a true picture of how change has impacted our lives – and nowhere does change have a greater impact than innovations in fishing equipment and techniques.
Growing up as a kid on Wisconsin’s Crystal Lake in Sheboygan County, I fished almost every summer day. I had a cane pole rigged with black linen line and a store-bought massive, pre-tied hook and leader made of what we called catgut. It was bulky and stiff. I don’t know how we caught anything.
