Heartland Farms is a fifth-generation family farm specializing in potatoes, sweet corn, canned peas, and green beans. They manage 24,000 irrigated acres spread across five counties in central Wisconsin. The farm began with 80 acres in 1873 and continues to farm those original acres today.
Heartland Farms supplies chips for Frito Lay and is an example of the company’s commitment to 100% sustainable corn and potato sourcing. Heartland’s warehousing facilities revolutionized the potato chip industry by developing fresh agronomic and warehousing protocols for Frito Lay varieties. Managing potato storage is key to providing a high-quality product all year round.
Heartland Farms is home to over 100 central pivot irrigation systems and uses advanced technology to remotely control irrigation systems from a smartphone or tablet. Proper irrigation is indispensable to maintain the yield and quality of crops, which are very sensitive to stress from Mother Nature.
Advanced technology helps team members achieve success. Modern, comfortable, secure and reliable vehicles are a win-win solution for both Heartland and the environment. The employ of technology reduces miles driven per potato produced, promotes fuel efficiency and helps Heartland recruit and retain team members.
