Leslie Svacina Farms in Western Wisconsin near Deer Park. On her farm, Cylon Rolling AcresLeslie implements rotational grazing to breed meat goats and sheep in the pasture, selling nutritious, non -pasture meat directly to families throughout the country.
For Leslie, agriculture is not only raising animals – it is about management. “Sustainable development means the use and care of natural resources,” he explains. “Not only do we want to improve our natural resources, but also want to improve our practices to continue to learn and develop.”
What is a rotational grazing?
This way of thinking begins with the soil under her shoes. “The soil supports the entire ecosystem surrounding our farm,” he says. “Everything is integrated with our air and water.” That is why the rotational grazing – the practice of often movement of farm animals between pastures – is the foundation stone of Cylon Rolling Acres. “Practice grazing is the basis of how we grow and dictate how we care about the earth and the resources we have.”
Each decision about her farm requires Holistic approach. “We consider our role and resources as a whole system,” notes Leslie. “We keep our animals away from sensitive areas to minimize the risk of erosion and rafting.”
Fence systems for sheep and goats
Even her fence reflects her involvement in sustainable development. Thanks to the portable electric fence system powered by battery and solar energy, Leslie is able to divide pastures into paddocks to ensure even grazing and fertilization. “Goats and sheep can be known for getting out of fences, so the use of these tools provides safety animals,” he adds.
Technology helps, but its nature leads. “We follow the seasonal cycles of our land and around us ecosystems,” says Leslie. “I always think about the long -term influence and general health of our environment when we make management decisions and herd movements.”
Protection and sustainable development is at the root of everything they do on Cylon Rolling Acres, especially in the case of their rotational grazing practices. Leslie always wants to try modern things and improve his practices. “We want to produce a high -quality, balanced product for consumers throughout the country,” said Leslie.
