Reed Meyer of the Hudson Raiders Senior/Varsity Division trap shooting team participated in the Wisconsin Junior Olympic Qualifier in bunker trap over Memorial Day Weekend at the Wisconsin Trap Shooting Association home grounds in Nekoosa.
Bunker trap, or international trap, is the style of trap that is shot in the Olympics and the clays fly at 68 miles per hour with wider angles versus American trap, where the targets fly at 45 miles per hour.
Meyer competed with 19 co-ed individuals from around the state and finished day one hitting 65 out of 75 targets. Day two consisted of two rounds of 25 targets each round with Meyer shooting 20 and 23 and ending up in a tie for first place. Meyer and Tyler Thiede of Sauk County completed a sudden death shoot-off resulting in Meyer taking first place with a final total score of 108. Next up is the Junior Olympic Nationals which is held at the Olympic Training facility at Fort Carson in Colorado Springs, Colorado in June.
On June 2-3, Meyer competed in the 2018 Wisconsin Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) International Trap State Championships. He shot a total of 111 birds to take first place. The Raider bunker trap squad, consisting of Meyer, Cody Cicha and Tyler Melloy, hit 269 targets to take second place at state.
