Fishing for pink salmon in northern Lake Huron or the St. Marys are not uncommon. I don’t fish this area often, but I caught one in St. Marys on a crisp fall day, just below the Sault Ste Lock and Dam. Marie, Mich.
Like most people who caught them, I was disappointed. Our target was a king salmon – hopefully a 20-pounder – not a petite fish weighing less than two pounds. This was just before the king salmon disaster in Lake Huron, so most anglers saw the little pink fish hanging from the ends of their lines more of a nuisance than an opportunity.
