Milwaukee Breweries promotes Tyler Black; Could this spell doom for 1 other player?

The Milwaukee Breweries made several lineup changes before the series finale against the Los Angeles Angels. Infielder Tyler Black was recalled from Triple-A and right-handed pitcher Bradley Blalock was recalled from Double-A. Infielder Oliver Dunn was optioned and pitcher Elieser Hernandez was designated for assignment.

Earlier this year, both Tyler Black and Bradley Blalock were playing in the huge leagues. Black received 22 at-bats, collected five hits and stole two bases. Blalock advanced to the huge leagues but did not appear in a game.

What is the Brewers’ plan for Tyler Black and Bradley Blalock?

Manager Pat Murphy hasn’t announced what the final plan is for each of these players, but with the Brewers scheduled to play four more right-handed pitchers Thursday through Monday against the San Diego Padres, it’s likely that Tyler Black will also get some playing time as designated hitter or at first base. Bradley Blalock, in turn, replaces substitute Elieser Hernandez. This means there could be a low leverage situation until Blalock comes into play.

Could the Milwaukee Brewers promoting Tyler Black spell the doom of yet another player?

After being drafted in 2021, Tyler Black spent the 2022 minor league season playing both infield and outfield. In 2023, Black started the year playing third base, but eventually started to see action at first base. With current Brewers first baseman Rhys Hoskins on a short-term contract and Jake Bauers out of minor league options, it’s likely that Milwaukee sees Black as a key piece in its starting picture. Bauer’s has been struggling lately, so if Black provides a spark, it’s possible Bauer’s tenure will come to an end soon.
