Milwaukee Breweries star Christian Yelich is currently in the middle of a long-term contract worth $188.5 million that could keep him with the organization through the 2029 season. After signing the deal in 2020, the 32-year-old defenseman has endured a few lackluster seasons but has shown flashes of returning to a higher level of play. He’s maintained an elite level of play this year, is a starter on the 2024 All-Star team, and now one MLB influencer has begun to entertain the possibility of one day being drafted to Cooperstown.
An overview of Christian Yelich’s professional achievements.
Christian Yelich, who has over 10 years of MLB service under his belt, has numerous accolades under his belt. He is a one-time MVP winner (2018) and should probably win it again in 2019. He is a two-time batting title winner, a three-time Silver Slugger, a soon-to-be three-time All-Star, and has one Gold Glove Award. Finally, he is one of 49 players to ever hit 200 home runs, 200 stolen bases, and 300 doubles.
One influential MLB official gave Christian Yelich a major endorsement for the Hall of Fame.
On the Talkin Baseball Podcast, Jake Storelli brought up the possibility that Christian Yelich will one day be elected to the Hall of Fame. While WAR is a controversial statistic, Christian Yelich currently has a career bWAR of 42.2, while Hall of Fame players typically enter the Hall of Fame with a WAR between 50 and 70. This has sparked debate over whether if he continues to play at a WAR level close to 2.0 for at least five more seasons, there is a sturdy case for him to be a Hall of Famer.
A World Series win with the Milwaukee Brewers would assist Christian Yelich get into the Hall of Fame.
Jake Storelli also mentioned that if the Milwaukee Brewers can play well in October at least once (and win the World Series), Christian Yelich’s Hall of Fame chances will boost. Storelli also touched on the fact that he is the NL batting average leader in 2024 and another batting title would also assist him in that regard. You can watch the full discussion in the video below.
Even though Christian Yelich still has a few years left in professional baseball, it’s captivating to start thinking about his Hall of Fame case. All of that will become clearer in time, but for now, he seems on track to at least be included in the Cooperstown bid discussion.
