This Milwaukee Breweries Newest starting pitcher Aaron Civale made his debut for the team Friday night against the Los Angeles Dodgers. He pitched well overall, but the 29-year-old was tagged for four runs scored and two home runs in five innings pitched. One player he had success against was Shohei Ohtani.

Aaron Civale’s night against the Dodgers began with a strikeout to opener Shohei Ohtani. A nasty sweeper in his fifth at-bat was a punch out pitch. In the third inning, a back door cutter in his sixth at-bat sent Ohtani down the field looking, and then in the fourth inning, Ohtani chased a sinker that was above the zone for his third strikeout against Civale. Ohtani had struck out in his last three at-bats the previous night against the Arizona Diamondbacks, so he was on a streak of strikeouts in six consecutive at-bats.
Only nine pitchers have had Shohei Ohtani thrown out of their game three times.
Striking out Shohei Ohtani once in a game is an accomplishment in itself, but getting a pitcher to throw him out three times is incredibly occasional. Only nine other pitchers have done it in Ohtani’s seven-year MLB career. They are Justin Verlander, Justus Sheffield, Gerrit Cole, Luis Garcia, Dallas Keuchel, Triston McKenzie, Robbie Ray and Bruce Zimmerman.

The Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Milwaukee Brewers 8-5.
Despite Shohei Ohtani struggling on his 30th birthday (0-5 with three strikeouts), the Dodgers beat the Brewers 8-5. Los Angeles beat Rhys Hoskins’ grand slam thanks in huge part to Will Smith’s three-run homer. Their series opener was stimulating, and this weekend could potentially be a preview of a potential playoff matchup in October.
