Milwaukee Brewers: Brewers collapse in extra inning, lose 7-4 to Cardinals

On Monday, the Milwaukee Brewers began a three-game series with their division rivals, the St. Louis Cardinals. In the first game of the series, the Brewers suffered a tough 9-3 loss. Although Milwaukee lost, it was a memorable night for shortstop Willy Adames, as he experienced a truly emotional moment. In the second game, Milwaukee suffered a tough loss 7-4 loss. This Brewers team will look to rebound in the series finale before facing the dreadful Colorado Rockies.

Milwaukee is 81-58 with the loss. They are 10 games ahead of the Chicago Cubs and 11 games ahead of the Cardinals in the NL Central. St. Louis moves a step above .500 with the win, now 70-69. The Brewers will have to look for several massive series that could have huge playoff implications in this final month of regular-season action.

Two batters later, Cardinals first baseman Paul Goldschmidt hit an RBI double that bounced near the right-field wall. In the bottom of the third inning, Brewers third baseman Joey Ortiz hit his 10th home run of the season to left field. Two batters later, Milwaukee left fielder Jackson Chourio smashed his 19th home run of the year to center field to tie the score at two apiece.

Cardinals first baseman Paul Goldschmidt recorded his second RBI of the day when he hit a solo homer to left field in the top of the fourth. The game evened out again in the bottom of the fifth when Chourio hit an RBI double to left field. Neither team could score the rest of the game, meaning it was another extra-innings contest for Milwaukee. In the top of the 11th inning, Goldschmidt put his team ahead again with a single to center field. In the bottom of the 11th inning, Brewers shortstop Willy Adames tied the game at 4-4 with an RBI double to center field.

It was Cardinals center fielder Michael Siani who gave St. Louis the lead again. Siani blasted a two-run single to left field. St. Louis designated hitter Alec Burleson finished the game with a sacrifice fly, giving the Cardinals a 7-4 lead and the eventual victory. Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Aaron Civale pitched five innings, allowing three runs on six hits and striking out seven. Hopefully, he can turn things around in his next appearance.
