Milwaukee Brewers: Brewers Excellent 3-1 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays

After losing 10-2 on Sunday but winning two of three games in Detroit against the Tigers, the Milwaukee Brewers began a three-game series against the Toronto Blue Jays last night. Milwaukee’s hitting kept the score alive and the attackers picked up some much-needed assists to score 3-1 win in the first game of this three-game series at American Family Field.

With the win, the Brewers are 39-27. They currently lead the National League Central by seven games. Toronto is 32-34, good for fourth place in the American League East by 14 games. It will certainly be intriguing to see if Milwaukee can continue to extend its lead in the NL Central and put pressure on to win the division.

This match started goalless for the first two rounds. In the bottom of the third inning, Blue Jays catcher Alejandro Kirk hit his second home run of the year with a solo shot to left field. In the bottom of the third period, Brewers right fielder Jackson Chourio hit his seventh home run of the season on a solo shot to left center field. An inning later, overdue in the fourth quarter, Brewers shortstop Willy Adames delivered an absolute bomb to left-center field to give Milwaukee a 2-1 lead. This home run was Adames’ tenth home run of the season. Adames hit a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fifth inning to give the Brewers a 3-1 lead.

After Milwaukee went up 3-1, both offenses failed to score. Toronto’s offense couldn’t come up substantial against the Brewers, and Milwaukee’s offense provided enough insurance runs to get the job done. This was a great win for the Brewers as they extended their lead in the division and hope to continue to do so as we approach the All-Star break.

The Brewers’ best performances come against the Blue Jays

Milwaukee Breweries
Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Jackson Chourio (11) struck out Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Martín Pérez (54) twice in the sixth inning of a game on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at American Family Field in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Colin Rea spent seven innings on the mound. He allowed one run on three hits while striking out four batters in the victory. After not counting the first two batters he faced, Rea then delivered first-pitch strikes to the final 21 batters he faced. Trevor Megill recorded his 10th save of the season for Milwaukee. Willy Adames went two-for-three with two RBIs to secure a perfect win for the Brewers. Jackson Chourio went one for two.

Blue Jays starting pitcher José Berríos pitched five and two-thirds innings. He allowed three runs on five hits and a walk while striking out four batters in the loss. Only three Toronto hitters recorded hits in the loss. Second baseman Spencer Horwitz went two for four and Daulton Varsho and Alejandro Kirk went one for three. The substantial question for the Blue Jays is: Can they play more consistently and start hitting a winning streak?
